National Identification Authority (NIA) – Registration of Ghanaians Living Abroad

Overview

All Ghana Card applications must first be completed online.

Part 1 – Complete the online application

During this stage, applicants will be virtually vetted.

All payments must be made online directly through the NIA portal.

Applicants must follow all online instructions carefully to complete Part 1 successfully.

Part 2 – Book an appointment

Once Part 1 has been completed, applicants must schedule an appointment online.

This will enable them to visit the Consulate for fingerprinting and photography.

After this stage, the Ghana Card will be issued.

Mandatory Registration Requirements

Applicants must present one of the following:

A Birth Certificate issued by the Births and Deaths Registry of Ghana

A valid Ghana Passport issued by the Government of Ghana

An Oath of Identity form obtained through the vouching process

Evidence of acquired Ghanaian citizenship (e.g., Naturalisation certificate)

Additional Requirements

Applicants who possess the following documents issued by the Government of Ghana must bring them along.
Note: these are not mandatory registration documents.

Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) ID

Driver’s Licence

National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) Card

Voter ID Card

Tax Identification Number (TIN) registration document
