As one of the first countries in Africa to establish diplomatic relations and development cooperation with Canada, Ghanaians and Canadians have shared long-standing bonds in the Commonwealth of Nations. The Ghanaian diaspora in Canada is substantial and well-endowed with professionals and economically active people who are involved in the development of Canada and their homeland, Ghana.

Ghana, with the history of being one of the foremost countries to suffer the slave trade, has opened her doors to her kits and kin in the Diaspora. Indeed, Ghana has become the beacon of hope for the numerous African diasporas across the world who still consider Africa as home, especially after hosting the highly successful homecoming event in 2019, dubbed The Year of Return to commemorate the 400th year of the landing of the first slave ship in the North America.

As the country’s economy expands and offers more opportunities to all its citizens; to become less dependent on international aid; by seeking to transform its own resources; in order to position itself as a country with resilient economy in the global marketplace; the Consulate-General is poised to be key in supporting the government’s agenda of Ghana Beyond Aid.

Ghana's climate for investments is highly favourable to international investors. The Consulate-General welcomes Canadians and other nationals resident in Canada, as well as Ghanaians in the diaspora to make Ghana the investment destination of choice.
